Built lsome time before 1742, the Raleigh Tavern was the meeting place for many American patriots preceding and during the Revoluion. The Phi Beta Kappa Society is believed to have been founded there in 1776. The original tavern was destroyed by fire in 1859. In 1930 Colonial Williamsburg rebuilt the inn on the original foundations.

In the fall of 2017 Colonial Williamsburg unveiled a new facade on the tavern. Archeologists had learned that the tavern once had a front porch. When the work was done and the scaffolding came down and I saw it for the first time, I knew that I would have to paint another scene of the beautiful Raleigh Tavern.
